The Centre In The Square is a live theatre and performing arts centre built in Kitchener circa 1980. The facility has over 2000 seats in the main hall and is known for its expansive view and acoustical superiority.

Two of the existing twelve washroom facilities have undergone one renovation during its 40-year life span.  The current plans are to renew the finishes in all twelve washrooms at this time with the option of two additional washrooms (single use) pending owner direction based on Concept design and Order of Magnitude cost estimate. The governing codes and mandates have changed since the original construction of the facility and these new requirements are being integrated into the scope of work.

An operational decision has been made to forego construction activities during the performing season in order to minimize disturbance to business continuity for a positive patron, staff and performer experience. As such, phased construction activities are planned for the summer months of 2022 and 2023 during the 8 weeklong performance breaks.

The project includes the design and renovation of 12 washroom facilities as outlined in the Appendix B, David Thompson Architect Washroom Study of June 3rd, 2019.  While Option 2 has been selected to proceed, two additional accessible washrooms were recommended for construction on the mezzanine floor as highlighted on the plans provided in Appendix B.  Appendix B is to be reviewed in conjunction with Appendix C floor plans which clearly outline washrooms referenced. It should be stated, that while the study recommended the two additional accessible washrooms be constructed on the mezzanine floor, the location presented is not suitable to meet the highest volume of patrons on the ground floor.
