| Description: |
To ensure a vibrant future for Downtown Kitchener it is important to continue to optimize opportunities that strengthen a sense of community. The City Centre District within Downtown Kitchener is the historic heart of the City. This district is evolving into a compact, contemporary urban setting, with taller buildings, lively street activity and a stylish mix of shops, restaurants, cultural and entertainment uses. The advent of rapid transit will significantly impact growth and change to our built environment and our travel patterns. The Cenotaph Green is prominently located on federally-owned land at the corner of Frederick and Duke Streets. Cenotaph Green is the location of the annual Remembrance Day ceremony and also serves as public/urban green space. This site is currently leased and maintained year-round by the City. Many of the Cenotaph Green amenities have reached the end of their life-cycle and are in need of replacement. Additionally, the requirements for the design of public spaces has evolved considerably since the Cenotaph Green was created. The Cenotaph Green Improvement Plan is to not only address these needs, but also to address the current memorialization and commemorative needs. The City of Kitchener requires the services of a consultant to prepare a Cenotaph Green Improvement Plan for one of Kitchener’s most important heritage landscapes and ceremonial sites. |
